Moyers & Company [#124H] How Big Banks Victimize Our Democracy * JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon's appearances in the last two weeks before Congressional committees - many members of which received campaign contributions from the megabank - beg the question: For how long and in how many ways are average Americans going to pay the price for big bank hubris, with our own government acting as accomplice? This week, Rolling Stone editor Matt Taibbi and Yves Smith, creator of the finance and economics blog Naked Capitalism, discuss the folly and corruption of both banks and government, and how that tag-team leaves deep wounds in our democracy. Taibbi's latest piece is "The Scam Wall Street Learned from the Mafia." Smith is the author of ECONned: How Unenlightened Self Interest Undermined Democracy and Corrupted Capitalism.

A former aide to Robert Kennedy and faculty director of Georgetown University's Center on Poverty, Inequality, and Public Policy, Edelman's new book is "So Rich, So Poor: Why It's So Hard to End Poverty in America."

So the leaf detectives start their investigation by counting the points on their leaf and comparing the color, shape, and size with other leaves until they find one that looks the same. When they discover which tree the leaf came from, Leela and Chris explain that the tree is deciduous, which means it will lose its leaves every fall and grow them back every spring. Since Stinky doesn't want to move, they all think of ways that they can protect him from the falling leaves. First Elmo and Rosita try an umbrella, but Stinky explains that it's not good since it blocks the sunlight. Then they try a big clear bowl that will let in the sunlight, but Stinky tells them that it will keep out the raindrops that he needs. War [#103H] A Deadly Calling Examines America's reaction to the war. In fall 1943, after almost two years of war, the American public is able to see for the first time the terrible toll the war is taking on its troops when Life Magazine publishes a photograph of the bodies of three GIs killed in action at Buna. Despite American victories in the Solomon Islands and New Guinea, the Japanese empire still stretches 4,000 miles, and victory seems a long way off. Back home, the public is devastated by color newsreel footage of the furious battle, including the bodies of Marines floating in the surf, and grows more determined to do whatever is necessary to hasten the end of the war. African Americans, asked to fight a war for freedom while serving in the strictly segregated armed forces, demand equal rights, and the military reluctantly agrees to some changes. Japanese-American men, originally designated as "enemy aliens," are permitted to form a special segregated unit, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. In Hawaii and in the internment camps, thousands sign up, including Robert Kashiwagi, Susumu Satow and Tim Tokuno of Sacramento. Middle-aged Rolf and Eva live in a passionless relationship full of sexual frustration. Then a like a bulldozer, in fact, a real bulldozer...comes to shake up their lives forever. It's at this point that next-door neighbor Glenn comes knocking with a rather unusual offer. Welcome to the quirky, off-kilter world of writer/director Patrik Eklund. The film won top prize at the Cannes Film Festival and was short listed for a 2011 Academy Award. Principal cast: Jacob Nordenson, Anki Larsson, Daniel Rudstedt, Camilla Larsson and Svante Grundberg.
