Curriculum: A comet is an icy body that releases gas or dust. Comets are often compared to dirty snowballs. Occasionally a comet streaks through the inner solar system, creating quite a show! Asteroid Patrol - When Sean learns that asteroids are floating around the solar system (potentially), he decides to set up a homemade asteroid watch-station in the treehouse, and gets all the other kids involved. Eventually, Sean's mother and her colleague at the DSA help Sean and the others understand how scientists monitor the skies for asteroids, a job that Sean doesn't need to do all by himself. Curriculum: Asteroids are mostly found in the Asteroid Belt. Occasionally an asteroid can break away from the gravity of the Asteroid Belt and intersect with the orbit of the Earth. Now Nick and Sally can make their airplanes, and the best part, they used recycled paper! A Polar Adventure - Nick and Sally have lost Teddy outside, they need to find him, bears don't like the snow! Well some bears do, proclaims the Cat. In Freeze-Your-Knees-Snowland, Cat's friend Polly the polar bear loves the snow! They meet Polly and her two bear cubs and learn how their thick fur keeps them warm and how their long claws keep them from slipping on the ice. When a storm blows in, Polly keeps everyone warm in her den. Polar bears really do like the cold! He soon finds himself alone in the woods, immobile due to the old, broken tracks. Rocky, Percy, and Sir Topham Hatt to the rescue, Thomas is brought back to Steamworks, where he is surprised to see Hiro already fixed! The Beast of Sodor - Spencer is stranded on Sodor because of the snowy weather and delights in telling the other engines about meeting the abominable snowman. Thankfully, the seemingly abominable snowman turns out to be Sir Topham Hatt. Den and Dart - Den and Dart are best friends and teammates who are rarely separated. When Den is sent to the quarry as a replacement engine, he worries about taking on the new job without Dart. When Samantha comes to the door to claim her lost kitten, "Whiskers", Caillou fetches the kitty...and finds Rexy! He remembers it isn't fun losing something you care about, and happily returns the kitty to its rightful owner. Educational Objective: Returning a lost pet to a rightful owner; perspective taking. Caillou's Favourite Sweater: Grandma has knit Caillou a wonderful sweater. He loves it and wears it every day - even after it gets dirty! Finally, on a hot day, Caillou decides to take it off. When he accidentally leaves the sweater in the playground and goes home for the day, he worries something terrible has happened to it. Grandma will be so upset with him! When Mommy and Caillou return the next day to find the sweater is fine, Caillou vows to never wear it again. He decides to keep it in his drawer, nice and safe - until Grandma explains it's okay to wear the sweater - it's meant to be worn - just not everyday. Educational Objective: All things in moderation; taking care of one's possessions. Caillou's Big Dig: Caillou is feeling frustrated while trying to build a model truck. He decides he wants to quit! Daddy suggests Caillou take a break and join him on an errand. Together, they stop by Eric's dig site, where Caillou learns a little bit about archaeology - and he learns that some things take time and effort, but the effort is worth it in the end.     Bob the Builder [#1006] Bob's Big Challenge MOVING HOUSE When Mayor Madison wants to save an old historic house that is dangerously close to a crumbling cliff, Bob and the team lift it onto Two-Tonne's flatbed to take it to a new site. Mr. Bentley accompanies the convoy and, being a keen bird watcher, he spots a nest of very rare eggs by the side of the road. To avoid disturbing it, Two-Tonne decides to take a different route through the city, but he misjudges the height of the bridge and the house gets stuck. Luckily Bob has a solution! He lets the air out of Two Tonne's tires so the vehicle becomes low enough to squeeze under the bridge and move to the new site. LEARNING GOALS: --To understand the value of teamwork. --To learn to ask for help. --To explore height. --To recognize the importance protecting animals and their nests. --To understand that tires are filled with air. CRANE PAIN The team is at the stadium construction site installing sections of concrete onto the steelwork. Lofty is excited to be working with Tiny and wants to impress him. Lofty doesn't admit to finding the concrete difficult to lift and he drops a section in front of the access way, trapping everybody inside the stadium. With some creative problem solving and collaboration, the team completes the job in time! Instead of singing the word "star," Duck freezes and blurts out the first thing he sees. At first Lily Lambeosaurus is reluctant to go, thinking that a new adventure sounds hard, but Don convinces her that a new adventure can be worth the effort. At the bottom of the canyon, the kids play Dinoball and then dig for fossils.     Dinosaur Train [#312H] Zeppelin: Waterfalls/Zeppelin: Atoll As the Pteranodon kids play in their family nest, Buddy stares at a sky full of clouds and asks the group, "What are clouds?" Mr. Pteranodon and his neighbor, Mr. Lambeosaurus, have different opinions. As they all get on the Dinosaur Train, they consider whether clouds are made of water or whether they're just made of fluff. Tiny knows who would have the facts--Mr. Conductor! He explains that clouds are made of billions of tiny drops of water that are so light they float in the air. He also takes the group to Cloudy Point Station where the kids play a cloud-spotting game, identifying the three types of clouds they learned about: cirrus, stratus and cumulus. As the group in the saucer searches for, yet can't find, the Northern Lights, Sunspot and Mindy work on a backyard project - making their own amazing backyard "Northern Lights" display! Curriculum: Northern lights (aka, aurora borealis) are a natural, awesome phenomenon. The origin of the aurora begins when a cloud of gas is ejected from the Sun's surface. When it collides in Earth's atmosphere with oxygen and nitrogen, it produces dazzling auroral light. Treehouse ISS - When the kids realize that they all want to use the treehouse at the same time for different activities, arguments break out. Mindy tries to help by creating a schedule for each kid to use the treehouse alone. In the end, the kids realize they need each other's company and ideas in order to be successful in their own projects. In resolving their problem, the kids learn to think like the scientists on the International Space Station, who have to find a solution to the problem of getting along while doing different projects in a small space. Curriculum: The International Space Station (ISS) program is a great global human achievement in international cooperation.
