Ready Jet Go! [#116] Solar System Bake-Off/Kid-Kart Derby Solar System Bake-off! - Mindy and Carrot are entering a cooking competition and are making desserts representing the different planets of the Solar System. But they hit a bump when they can't remember if Saturn is cold on the inside and hot on the outside... or the other way around. Jet, Sydney, and Sean fly with Celery out to Saturn to find out before the competition begins, so Mindy and Carrot can finish their entry in time! Curriculum: The planets in our solar system can be divided into two categories -- terrestrial (inner planets) and gas (outer planets). Saturn is a gas planet that seems to have a hot solid inner core of iron and rocky material surrounded by an outer core probably composed of ammonia, methane, and water. Kid-Kart Derby - Jet builds an electric engine from scratch for the annual soapbox derby competition, but Mitchell, determined to win the derby, is suspicious that Jet is using some alien technology. Curriculum: An ion drive engine is a very fuel-efficient engine for space vehicles. Ion beams are capable of propelling spacecraft at up to 10 times faster than ships propelled by chemical rockets. duration 28:55   SRND51 TVY (Secondary audio: DVI)

It turns out that Sunspot was aware of an impending eclipse and was trying to alert the kids to the fact that the Sun would be darkened for a while. Curriculum: A solar eclipse is a type of eclipse that occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and the Moon fully or partially blocks the Sun. In a total eclipse, the disk of the Sun is fully obscured by the Moon. It's important not to look directly at the Sun during an eclipse, but you can watch it through the use of a box viewer. "Sean's Year in Space" - Sean is excited by NASA's "Year in Space" program on the ISS, and decides to try to live for a year in the tree house without ever coming down. The kids keep interrupting him, and finally, after only a short afternoon of trying, he comes down for dinner. Curriculum: The International Space Station, or ISS, is home to several astronauts at a time, who come and go in small capsules like the Soyuz. At this point, astronauts are even staying for a year at a time to study what happens to humans who live in micro-gravity for extended periods, so we can learn what will happen to us on long space voyages, like a trip to Mars. duration 28:46   SRND51 TVY (Secondary audio: DVI)

Sesame Street [#4635H] Meet Julia Alan, Abby, Elmo and their friend Julia are painting as Big Bird walks by. Big Bird mentions how great everyone's paintings are and tries to give Julia a high-five but she happily goes off to play. Big Bird doesn't think Julia likes him but Alan explains that Julia has autism and for her it means that she may not answer him right away, speak a lot and or do what he might expect like give him a high-five; she does things just a little differently. Julia does love playing with her friends so Big Bird suggests that they play tag. Elmo tags Julia and she boings like a rubber ball after them. Big Bird says he's never played tag like this before. Alan tells Big Bird that Julia does things differently, things that Big Bird might even want to try, like boing tag. Big Bird thinks it does look like fun and joins in. Just then fire truck sirens go off and Julia stops boinging and covers her ears. Big Bird doesn't realize that the sirens are bothering Julia and he tags her. This upsets Julia some more so Alan suggests that they take a break and brings her to a quieter place. To help her calm down, Alan gives Julia her stuffed animal and together they take deep breaths. Julia feels better and is ready to play again. While waiting for Julia to return, Big Bird tells Abby and Elmo that Julia's not like any friend he's ever had before. Abby and Elmo help Big Bird realize that none of them are exactly the same; all of Big Birds friends are different and each one is unique. Julia comes back and together, she, Big Bird, Abby, Elmo, and Alan play and sing, celebrating how everyone is special and amazing. duration 28:46   STEREO TVY (Secondary audio: DVI)

Dinosaur Train [#405H] Nest Swap/The Herd Is The Word * "Nest Swap" - The Pteranodon Family decides to take a little vacation and swap nests with Larry's friends: a family of pterosaurs (Nemicolopterus, to be exact). Can the family make do, try something new, and still have a good time? Educational Objectives: The Nemicolopterous was a small, toothless pterosaur that lived in the forests of the early cretaceous. Pterosaur diversity included a range in body size, head and body shape, presence and absence of teeth, long tails, preferred habitat, and preferred diet.. * "The Herd is the Word" - Tank Triceratops is really excited to show Buddy, Tiny, Shiny, and Don his favorite picnic spot, but when they arrive, the spot is overrun with a whole herd of Triceratops. Tank and the kids try to find another place with a little more privacy (and a lot less Triceratopses), but no matter where they go, the herd follows them. The kids think that Quentin's long snout gives him a super smelling sense, but after a series of tests, they realize that he and Buddy have the same sniffing power. Can Quentin and Buddy's super sniffers solve the mystery of Mom's secret daytrip? Educational Objectives: Qianzhousaurus was a Tyrannosaur from the late cretaceous with a long, narrow snout (covered in tiny horns). Tyrannosaurs came in a variety of shapes and sizes. Qianzhousaurus probably hunted much smaller prey than its super strong- jawed cousin. T. Rex..

While on the way to the campout, Mr. Conductor challenges the kids to make a real "nature connection" by creating games that push them to look at nature from a different point of view. Educational Objectives: You can't appreciate nature just by looking at it. You need to dig in and be a part of it: splashing, climbing, getting dirty, and looking at things in a whole new way. Forming a "Nature Connection" (that is, fostering a bond with the natural world) is a hands-on, full body, multisensory activity that is essential for a healthy childhood.
