1:30 amSpark! [#602H] Benton, Ramos, and Riley In the spring of 2008, the de Saisset Museum in Santa Clara exhibited a major collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures from the 1960's. The vibrant and often confrontational work from this period has made a lasting mark on the California art scene. Spark takes a look at the artistic legacy of this celebrated decade, and catches up with local luminaries Wayne Thiebaud and Mel Ramos, whose friendship goes back more than 50 years.
Also featured is avant-garde pioneer Terry Riley, one of the best-known composers to emerge in the 20th century. Riley is often credited with the introduction of electronic instrumentation and tape looping in American experimental music. Spark visits with Riley and Kronos Quartet founder David Harrington as they prepare "Cusp of Magic," a piece written for Kronos to be performed in celebration of Riley's 70th birthday.
