ADD & Mastering It! From the team of comedians behind the ground breaking documentary ADD & Loving It!?! comes a new, entertaining and empowering film. Patrick McKenna and Rick Green make it clear that there is much that can be done to not just manage this disorder, but turn it to your advantage. The program goes through 36 practical tips for managing one's ADD or ADHD.
The program is fast and funny. As adults with ADHD Patrick and Rick keep it light. The 36 Tips are specifically chosen to be ADHD/ADD-friendly. What works for most people is often counter-productive for ADDers. For example, meditation is challenging enough for the average person; for the ADDer it's daunting. But experts explain "the walking meditation," and Rick shows how to seize small moments throughout the day to recover and relax. Some of the tips are simple tricks that help focus and motivation: Choose Your Distraction, Chunk It Up, Keep Stuff Together.
Backing up Patrick and Rick are many experts, who explain the neurology and psychology of this condition. The list of experts is a who's who of psychiatrists, psychologists and authors. From the opening moments of the film the viewer will be laughing and engaged - because that's how ADHD/ADD folks learn best.

Washington Week [#5233H] * President Obama began a 3-city, post-State of the Union tour Wednesday, to rally support for a number of his second-term policy goals. Among the key issues: raising the minimum wage, universal early childhood education, immigration reform and tougher gun-control legislation. The president said his proposals will strengthen the middle class without adding "a dime" to the deficit. Republicans are skeptical. In the official GOP response to the president's address, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said the nation's problems cannot be solved by more government spending.
Considering the deep partisan divisions that exist in Washington, and the fact that many of President Obama's initiatives will require congressional action, what can really get done? We will get answers and analysis from John Dickerson of Slate Magazine and CBS News, Karen Tumulty of The Washington Post, Jeff Zeleny of The New York Times, Todd Purdum of Vanity Fair, Eamon Javers of CNBC.
    * Plus we'll have the latest on the seemingly stalled confirmation of former Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE) to become the next Secretary of Defense and an update on the possibility that automatic sequestration budget cuts will take effect March 1.

American Masters [#2208H] Sam Cooke: Crossing Over Sam Cooke put the spirit of the black church into popular music -- creating a new sound and setting into motion a chain of events that forever altered the course of popular music and race relations in America. With "You Send Me" in 1957, Cooke became the first African American artist to reach #1 on both the R&B and the pop charts. He proved with his pop/gospel hybrid, that it was, indeed, possible to win over white teenage listeners and keep his faithful church followers intact. In combining two worlds, his constant challenge was to sing meaningful lyrics with the fervor of gospel and the romance of pop. He came closest with "Chain Gang," observed and written during the Civil Rights era and with the poignant, biting lyrics and melody of "A Change Is Gonna Come" in 1962, fashioned out of the depth of personal pain and loss. He had the courage to take an open stand against racism, refusing to perform at a segregated venue in the south and garnering the support of Dick Clark. But, at the height of his success in 1964, he was gunned down and killed in the company of a prostitute -- leaving a profound legacy filled with extraordinary talent -- and all the questions about what might have been. This documentary includes original interviews with Lou Rawls, James Brown, Sam Moore, Bobby Womack, Smokey Robinson, Mel Carter, Herb Alpert, Lou Adler and James Carter, among many others from both sides of the crossover music world, then and now. duration 55:46   STEREO TVPG
