It's Humpty's dream to play football, so he offers to replace him, but Telly is very worried that Humpty will break. Humpty pulls out his helmet and pads and says not to worry. The game starts, and Humpty goes for the ball, crashes, and cracks. Telly wants to help him, so he asks the question: "How do you keep an egg from breaking when he's playing football?" A real design challenge! Telly first tries wrapping Humpty in a cushion. The game resumes and crack - Humpty is down again. The cushion is too soft. Next, Telly tries a suit made out of sponges, but even though the sponges are bouncier than the cushion, they don't work too well either. Humpty is not giving up, and Telly is determined to help him. As Chris demonstrates how fragile an egg shell is, a chicken enters with a carton of eggs and shows that none are cracked. This gives Telly the brilliant idea to make a special egg carton for Humpty. Washington Week [#5208H] * Gwen Ifill and the Washington Week team are traveling to Florida this week to cover the Republican National Convention. Republicans will be gathering in Tampa to officially nominate Mitt Romney as the party's candidate for president and to kick-off the final push to defeat President Barack Obama in November.
    * The former Massachusetts governor had planned to spend this week campaigning on his vision for America and talking about how he would create jobs, bolster the economy and reduce the national debt. But Romney's message was drowned out by a fellow Republican running for the US Senate in Missouri. Rep. Todd Akin's controversial remarks about rape and abortion outraged liberals as well as many conservatives. Romney and members of the GOP leadership have called on Akin to step aside, but the 6-term House member remains defiant and has vowed to stay in the Senate race until the end. Will the issue of abortion be a factor in the fall and could it help or hurt the Romney-Ryan ticket?
    * The presidential race remains a virtual tie with President Obama gaining a slight lead since Romney tapped Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan to be his running mate. Ryan enjoys tremendous support among the party base, but can he rally reluctant Republicans who question Romney's conservative credentials?
    * Florida Senator Marco Rubio, a one-time vice presidential contender and a tea party favorite will introduce Mitt Romney before he accepts his nomination. Rubio is among a roster of the party's future stars scheduled to speak including New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

Nazi Hunters [#111Z] The Monster and the Butcher Klaus Barbie was head of the Gestapo in Lyon, France in WWII. His job was to crush French resistance and his barbarity earned him the nickname "Butcher of Lyon." Responsible for the deaths of more than 4000 French men and women, Barbie disappeared after the war. "Ivan the Terrible," aka Ivan Grozny, aka Ivan Marchenko, had been a spectacularly brutal Ukrainian guard at the Treblinka death camp. Husband and wife team Serge and Beate Klarsfeld went in search of Klaus Barbie and first found him in Peru. He then fled to Bolivia, but the Klarsfelds did not give up. In 1983, their relentless political pressure paid off and Barbie was jailed in Bolivia for debt. He was returned to Lyons, the site of his most notorious wartime crimes, and was charged with crimes against humanity. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. 4 years later, he died in prison from cancer. The pursuit of Ivan the Terrible called into question the single minded avenging of war crimes. In October 1983, the Israeli authorities heard that a man suspected of being Ivan the Terrible had been found living in Ohio as a retired auto worker. His name was John Demjanjuk. The US deported him and a sensational trial began. It seemed an open and shut case. But then the case unraveled. The evidence from the USSR turned out to have been faked - probably to embarrass the US by showing how it had been harboring war criminals. duration 51:04   STEREO TVPG

Nazi Hunters [#112Z] Goering - The Star Exhibit As it was not possible to try Hitler for crimes against humanity at Nuremburg, the prosecutors turned to the next best thing - his deputy, Hermann Goering. Goering had founded the Gestapo, and commanded the Luftwaffe. Strangely the first group to capture Goering was the SS, who had been given orders by Hitler to kill him. The Americans then took up the chase and, in a two week hunt, finally caught up with him. He was sentenced to be executed but, the day before the execution, managed to commit suicide using cyanide. duration 49:32   STEREO TVPG
