  Buddha Two and a half millennia ago, a new religion was born in northern India, generated from the ideas of a single man, the Buddha. He was a mysterious Indian sage who famously gained enlightenment while he sat under a big, shapely fig tree. The Buddha never claimed to be God or his emissary on earth. He said only that he was a human being who, in a world of unavoidable pain and suffering, had found a kind of serenity that others could find too.   Sesame Street [#4306H] A Song for the Letter G Elmo, Rosita, and the letter "J" are singing a song about the sound that the letter "J" makes. After the "J" leaves, the letter "G" approaches Rosita and Elmo and tells them that he can make the "juh" sound, too, just like the letter "J", and he can also make the "guh" sound like in the word "gorilla." Elmo and Rosita think it is amazing that "G" can make two sounds! The "G" is upset, though, because he doesn't have a song about him like the letter "J" does. Elmo and Rosita need help thinking of a song that is different from the "J" song, so Super Grover comes to help. He sings a super "G" song, but the letter "G" isn't sure that the song is right for him. Oscar the Grouch offers to make up a different song, but this one is just too yucky. Rosita brings her guitar and sings a song about Spanish words that begin with "G". He likes it, but it's too slow. He's a letter with get up and go. Elmo and Rosita make up a "G" song with a more upbeat sound that gets their bodies moving. The Birthday Concert From his early years under the tutelage of friend and mentor Oscar Hammerstein II and continuing through the groundbreaking productions of his later career, Stephen Sondheim has been a singular voice in the American musical theater, a true original in the pantheon of major American songwriters and composers. Beginning with his collaborations as lyricist on such fabled shows as West Side Story and Gypsy, to his breakthrough scores for Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, and Into the Woods, Sondheim led the way from Broadway's golden age into the increasingly ambivalent times of America's post-Vietnam, rock 'n' roll culture.
  Performed on the occasion of Sondheim's 80th birthday in March 2010, GP presents the New York Philharmonic's gala all-star salute to a true Broadway legend.   The Weavers: Wasn't That A Time! Much of what became the folk-music revival of the late 1950s and early 1960s -- from which came Peter, Paul, and Mary, the Kingston Trio, and Bob Dylan, among others -- began in the late 1940s with a group called The Weavers. Made up of Lee Hays, Ronnie Gilbert, Fred Hellerman, and Pete Seeger, The Weavers were part of a movement of socially conscious singers that began with Woody Guthrie (who, with Hays and Seeger, formed the Almanac Singers in the 1940s). This 1982 documentary captures a reunion performance at Carnegie Hall in the early 1980s of the now-aged Weavers, blending contemporary footage of the concert with background about the intemperate, intolerant times in which The Weavers first emerged.
