What was supposed to be a skating outing becomes a shoveling chore because of all the snow that has accumulated in Grandpa's driveway. Soon, Caillou finds a way to turn this into a game and has a lot of fun making snow castles. When Caillou and Rosie stay at Grandma and Grandpa's house, Grandpa uses pop bottles and a rubber ball to create a bowling alley in the backyard. Grandpa teaches Caillou to bowl, but when he is called inside, it's Caillou's turn to teach as he shows Rosie how to play. Caillou accidentally spills the rest of the milk before Rosie could get her cereal. She is very upset and Caillou suggests they go get some more milk at the corner store. At the street intersection, he shows Mom that he knows when it is time to cross safely. Caillou is excited when Miss Martin takes him and his friends to the park for some special activities. He's especially worried for his new friend, Soren Sauronitholestes, who is sitting on a nest of her eggs, out in the blizzard. But everything turns out all right: Dad explains that wishing for something doesn't make it happen, and the well-adapted, warm-blooded, feather-covered Soren successfully hatches her babies. While visiting the North Pole, the Conductor suggests that the family stop off at Aurora Borealis Station on an enormous frozen lake to see the Aurora Borealis, where the Northern Troodons celebrate a "Festival of Lights." While the kids wait for night to fall and view the Aurora Borealis, they work up an ice-skating show to entertain Mom and Dad. This weekend, Bill asks political communication expert and "master media decoder" Kathleen Hall Jamieson to separate fact from fiction in the national campaigns thus far. Jamieson runs the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, including the sites FactCheck.org and FlackCheck.org
  The show then moves from politics to poetry as Bill welcomes former US Poet Laureate Rita Dove, who this very week received the National Medal of Arts from President Obama. Dove served 2 terms as Poet Laureate, the youngest and the first African American to be named to that prestigious position. Through an intimate conversation and select readings, Moyers and Dove explore American history, language, culture, and ideas. They also talk about the responsibility - and controversy - that comes with editing a prestigious anthology, as Dove was recently tasked for The Penguin Anthology of 20th Century American Poetry.

  American Masters [#2208H] Sam Cooke: Crossing Over Sam Cooke put the spirit of the black church into popular music -- creating a new sound and setting into motion a chain of events that forever altered the course of popular music and race relations in America. With "You Send Me" in 1957, Cooke became the first African American artist to reach #1 on both the R&B and the pop charts. He proved with his pop/gospel hybrid, that it was, indeed, possible to win over white teenage listeners and keep his faithful church followers intact. In combining two worlds, his constant challenge was to sing meaningful lyrics with the fervor of gospel and the romance of pop. He came closest with "Chain Gang," observed and written during the Civil Rights era and with the poignant, biting lyrics and melody of "A Change Is Gonna Come" in 1962, fashioned out of the depth of personal pain and loss. He had the courage to take an open stand against racism, refusing to perform at a segregated venue in the south and garnering the support of Dick Clark. But, at the height of his success in 1964, he was gunned down and killed in the company of a prostitute -- leaving a profound legacy filled with extraordinary talent -- and all the questions about what might have been.
