Film noir thriller starring Humphrey Bogart as an inmate convicted of murdering his wife. After escaping from prison in order to prove his innocence, he undergoes plastic surgery, then hides out in the apartment of young and sympathetic artist Lauren Bacall while he recuperates. Also features Bruce Bennett and Agnes Moorehead. Director Delmer Daves (who also co-wrote the film) brings a new twist for the old plot by filming the first segment (pre-surgery) entirely from Bogart's point-of-view.
