Star-Spangled Spectacular: Bicentennial of Our National Anthem (Episode #4002H)

This program is a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the penning of the country's national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner." It features a star-studded line-up of musical performances representing a wide variety of musical genres, historical vignettes and an extraordinary fireworks display. The show is broadcast live from the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine and Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The special features a diverse line-up of entertainers paying tribute to our nation's ideals in a thrilling and inspiring concert at the Pier Six Pavilion. The Baltimore harbor, replete with tall ships and naval vessels serves as a stunning backdrop. The program also includes ceremonial activities at Fort McHenry, historical highlights and a dramatic fireworks crescendo.

The concert presentation features soloists Julianna Di Giacomo (soprano), Michelle DeYoung (mezzo-soprano), Vittorio Grigolo (tenor) and Ildebrando D'Arcangelo (bass).

Jones, the story of Jacob's Pillow as an international dance center is interwoven throughout this performance documentary with never before seen footage and images from the Pillow's rare and extensive archives, including the pioneering Ted Shawn, who purchased Jacob's Pillow in 1931. Interspersed with the performances are intimate interviews with legendary dance artists including Judith Jamison, Paul Taylor, Mark Morris, Suzanne Farrell and Frederic Franklin, as well as one of the last interviews with the iconic Merce Cunningham.
