His Girl Friday Previous Broadcasts

(1940) (Episode null)

KQED 9: Sat, Sep 18, 2010 -- 8:00 PM

Cary Grant stars as Walter Burns, the conniving editor of the Chicago Morning Post, Rosalind Russell as Hildy Johnson, his star reporter (and his ex-wife), and Ralph Bellamy as insurance salesman Bruce Baldwin, the mama's boy Russell is trying to marry amid a hot murder story about condemned murderer Earl Williams (John Qualen) and inept Sheriff Pinky Hartwell (Gene Lockart). Throw in William's girlfriend Molly Malloy (Helen Mack), crooked Mayor Fred (Clarence Colb), Bruce's mother (Alma Kruger), a jailbreak, a shooting, and the antics of the press room gang (Roscoe Karns, Porter Hall, Cliff Edwards, Regis Toomey, Frank Jenks, and others), and the result is a sparkling comedy classic. Directed by Howard Hawks.
