Chely Wright began writing songs as a teenager in Kansas - the start of a career that has brought hit songs and numerous awards, including the Academy of Country Music Award for Best New Female Vocalist in 1995. In 2010, she launched a parallel career as an author and activist, publishing a memoir titled Like Me and coming out as the first openly gay country music star.
