But the wars of the late 1970's and the 1980's all but destroyed the country's reputation as a premier producer of quality beans. In The Price of Coffee, Nicaraguans strive to achieve their former place in the hierarchy of coffee producers. This story provides a backdrop not only to illustrate the complicated process of bean to cup but the social issues of economic and environmental sustainability in the worldwide coffee market.
