KQED Life: Fri, Sep 28, 2012 -- 2:00 PM

Eunny begins this show by going beyond basic intarsia with a demonstration on a two-color intarsia motif design. Next, Eunny and Kristin demonstrate how to knit intarsia argyle socks in the round, a project that looks a lot more complicated than it is. Then, on Yarn Spotlight, Eunny and Clara Parkes talk about heathered wools. These yarns add depth to knitwear just by their heathered elements. Finally, Eunny wraps up with a quick tip for bobbins and managing yarns for colorwork on bobbins.

On the Accessorize Me segment, Kristin Omdahl has a fun crocheted jewelry piece. It's both easy-to-crochet and on trend with jewelry seen in stores. Then on Yarn Spotlight, Clara Parkes and Eunny look at a yarn's halo. What is a halo, and what yarns have a tendency to have them? What are the benefits to yarn halos and what projects lend themselves to yarns with and without strong halos. Finally, Eunny wraps up with a quick tip for woven cable stitches, a timeless stitch pattern that can be used in unisex designs.

Unusually Unique (Episode #908)

Next, knitwear designer Kristen TenDyke takes a look at her finish-free knits with a demonstration on a neat i-cord element that she adds to her knitted pullover design. Then, on Yarn Spotlight, Clara Parkes and Eunny are surrounded by luxury as they look at luxurious yarns made from muskox and silk. Worth every penny of luxury, these yarns are one-of-a-kind and work well for various small projects. Finally, Eunny wraps up today's episode with a fun technique of purling backwards!
