Great Performances at the Met
In a historic first for any major performing arts institution in this country or abroad, the Metropolitan Opera this season will transmit 7 of its Saturday matinee performances live in high definition into movie theaters in the United States, Canada and Europe. These productions will later be broadcast on PBS.

Jonas Kaufmann stars in the title role of the innocent who finds wisdom in Francois Girard's new vision for Wagner's final masterpiece. His fellow Wagnerian luminaries include Katarina Dalayman as the mysterious Kundry, Peter Mattei as the ailing Amfortas, Evgeny Nikitin as the wicked Klingsor, and Rene Pape as the noble knight Gurnemanz. Daniele Gatti conducts.

Francesca Da Rimini (Episode #711H)

Zandonai's early 20th century melodrama "Francesca da Rimini" returns to the Met for its first revival in more than 25 years, in Piero Faggioni's opulent and realistic production. Marco Armiliato conducts Eva-Maria Westbroek in the title role of a noblewoman who is tricked into marrying the brutal Gianciotto, sung by Mark Delavan, instead of her true love Paolo, sung by Marcello Giordani. Robert Brubaker sings the wicked Malatestino, whose jealousy incites a murder.
