About the Show
Program Description
The San Francisco Bay Area has always drawn its strength, character and success from its phenomenal diversity. The city is the face of America's future, where Latin America and the Pacific Rim combine to form ever-evolving cultures, maverick political leaders, and cutting-edge thinkers and artists.

Yet with the recent explosion in the technology industry -- and the subsequent pressures it exerted on the Bay Area's housing and civic resources -- new challenges confront the area. The Mission district, a stronghold for working-class Latino families, was directly in the line of fire as the Internet economy exploded. The unparalleled growth benefited some and angered many. Across the Bay, in Richmond, CA, developers wanted to attract that same prosperity, but not at the sacrifice of the community's development.

Home Front focuses on these situations and the other complicated issues brought about by the Bay Area's recent boom and bust, on the promises and perils affecting the cultural landscape, and on the possibilities that lie ahead. Can individuals and communities work with developers to encourage prosperity while maintaining rich, diverse cultures?
