San Francisco Anti-War March -- January 18, 2003
On Saturday, January 18, 2003, thousands of protesters took to the
streets of San Francisco to march in protest against a potential U.S. war
with Iraq. The march was timed to coincide with the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday as well as a massive march in Washington, D.C. The march moved over the course of three hours from the
Ferry Building to a rally at the Civic Center.
Event participants included singers Joan Baez and Bonnie Raitt; actor Martin Sheen; Reverend Cecil Williams of Glide Memorial Church; Congressional Representatives Barbara Lee and Lynn Woolsey; John Burton, President of the California State Senate; Matt Gonzalez, President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors; Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farmworkers; and Reverend Ted Frazier, of the NAACP.
