Jim Foster
Positive Images

Jim Foster
Jim Foster is the Founder and Co-Director of Positive Images. Positive Images is community education resource and support group for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer, Questioning and Intersexed (GLBTQQI) youth and young adults in Sonoma and surrounding counties. Positive Images provides a safe space for teens and young adults and provides community educational services for high schools, businesses, community-based organizations, colleges, hospitals, social service departments, and other organizations interested in learning more about the issues facing GLBTQQI youth and young adults.

Foster graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1960, served in the Peace Corps as a teacher in Liberia, West Africa, and has a K-12 Lifetime Teaching Credential in Special Education. He has maintained a private practice as a licensed CA Marriage and Family Therapist for over 20 years assisting youth and families to explore gender and sexuality issues. He has directed the Peer Counseling Program and the Gay and Straight Alliance at Santa Rosa High for over 16 years and is regarded by local professionals as an expert in issues of gender identity, sexuality and internalized and cultural homophobia. He is also a well respected pioneer in GLBTQQI liberation.
