Pedro Gonzalez is a longtime community volunteer of the City of South San Francisco. He currently serves as a Council Member of the City of South San Francisco since May 2000. He was elected to a full term in November of 2001 and became Mayor in 2002. His local government interests include lack of affordable housing and available childcare assistance for low-income families. In addition to these local government interests, Gonzalez is committed to several public and community service initiatives. He was with the City of South San Francisco, Parks, Recreation and Community Service Commission from 1987 to 1995. Gonzalez served as mayor of South San Francisco from 2000 to 2003. He was also active in the implementation of the South San Francisco Community Learning Center.
Gonzalez was a member, president and co-founder of the Historical Old Town Homeowners and Renters Association from 1984 to 2000. As president, he implemented "Siempre Adelante" program, an informational program for the community on parenting and civic participation. He is also the founder of Sur San Francisco Unidos Organization in 1991 and remains a current member. Gonzales is also a current member of the South San Francisco Community Partnership and subcommittees of the Partnership that includes Kindergarten Readiness and Childcare.
Gonzalez is a member of various organizations including the Young Men's Institute, League of Women Voters, Friends of the South San Francisco Public Library, Friends of Parks and Recreation, Kiwanis, South San Francisco Sister City Organization, South San Francisco Historical Society and member of Son of Italy.
