Emily J. Sano, PhD and director of the Asian Art Museum, has been a driving force behind the effort to build the museum's new $160 million home at San Francisco's Civic Center. Dr. Sano joined the museum in 1993 and was instrumental in launching many noteworthy exhibitions, including the display of artifacts from ancient Xi'an. Prior to her work in San Francisco, she served with two museums in Texas and has also participated in peer review panels for the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts.
