Myra L. Smith

Myra Smith is a member of the Mvskoke
Nation of Oklahoma. She obtained her Medical Assisting Diploma from
Bryman School in 1982 and a Certification in Alcohol and Drug Studies
at UC, Berkeley. Myra was awarded the distinguished American Indian
Woman Award in 1997 from the American Indian Training Institute.
Myra has been working at Friendship House Association of American Indians for more than 10 years, currently serving as the Health Education Specialist. Myra has pioneered many programs at Friendship House including "Sober Spirits," a clean and sober support group for Native Americans in Recovery. Myra also leads counseling and support groups centered around anger management, domestic violence and her workshops on Inner Child Healing. Myra has served as a consultant with numerous state, federal and local agencies as well as private schools, prisons, universities and women's recovery programs to assist the community with Native American issues in spirituality and recovery issues.
