Fount Mashburn American Indian Culture & Education Program
Fount Mashburn was born in Fairfax, Oklahoma, born of Osage blood on
his Mother's side and Cherokee on his father's. Since being of Osage
blood was looked down upon and not spoken of during the time of his
birth, Fount only learned of his Osage heritage 30 years ago.
For over 20 years, Fount served as a member of the US Navy, serving in both World
War II and the Korean conflicts. Settling in the Bay Area with his wife -- a
marriage that has lasted over 60 years -- Fount began to reach out to communities
in the Concord area in order to educate the general population about the Indian
cultures and heritages in their own backyards.
Fount is especially honored to be working in the educational arena teaching American
Indian culture. He centers his teachings on the theme of "respect as a way of
life -- all in the Creator's grand scheme of things." Being someone who did not
graduate from high school, Fount is humbled by working with educators. He is
often seen at schools around Thanksgiving time giving presentations about American
Indians, dressed in traditional native garb.
Fount has been honored with a membership in the Black Wolf Society, an organization whose members honor those in the community. These efforts, on behalf of American Indians, have been noticed within the community, a very special achievement.
Fount is proudly a member of the American Indian Culture and Education Program in Martinez.
