Judy Campbell was born in Tokyo, Japan and was raised there and in New York City and Ann Arbor, Michigan. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in the History of Science, she migrated to San Francisco.
Judy decided to pursue a career in journalism after realizing she spent more time listening to public radio than doing most other things. She worked as a reporter and producer for KPFA radio in Berkeley and for Pacifica Radio in Washington DC. In print journalism, Judy wrote regularly for the East Bay Express and Marie Claire magazine. She also made a short-lived late '90s dive into the dot-com craze as the producer and voice of the main character of a semi-autobiographical internet cartoon about a harried news anchor.
In 2000 , she joined KQED as a producer of the daily talk show, Forum. She moved to the newsroom in 2002, where she is a general assignment reporter specializing in prison, police and social welfare issues.
Judy has published several short stories and is currently working on a screenplay.
