Do you love photographing Science, Environment and Nature in Northern California? Would you like to collaborate on a 2-minute QUEST TV short about your photography for an audience of over 100,000 viewers? We want you. See our discussion topic for more details!
What is Flickr?
Flickr is a free online photo-sharing community where the QUEST team uploads their photos and viewers like you can share and discuss photos as well. Everyone can add descriptions, titles, and "tags" – which are searchable keywords that identify photos. You'll be able to follow QUEST's behind-the-scenes photos from our TV, radio and web stories and discuss them with QUEST producers and people in the community who care about the stories we're reporting. There are also tons of other great ways to participate.
How do I see all of QUEST's photos?
Visit http://www.flickr.com/photos/kqedquest. Or, click on the images in our photo "badge" or grid on the right side of our web pages.Sounds like fun. How do I participate in the QUEST photo groups on Flickr?
One of the great things about Flickr is that users can post comments about photos they like and can share their own images in "pools" with others based on similar interests and subjects. To use Flickr, head to flickr.com and create an account, if you don't have one already. Then, upload your photos. Once you've uploaded them, feel free to add text to describe each photo. Then you're ready to join our the KQED QUEST photo group.
What will QUEST do with the photos?
Nothing without your permission first.
What more can I do with QUEST photos?
Check out a map of where they were taken. Most of the photos that QUEST team posts are "geo-tagged." This means that the location data (latitude and longitude) of where the photo was taken is included with the photo, and can pinpoint the photo on a map. Go see the QUEST photo map.
Add photos to our QUEST website: QUEST features online explorations – science and nature hikes from Bay Area. As in this science hike in Don Edwards SF Bay Wildlife Refuge, the trail map features photos from along the way. You can add photos to our explorations groups, and they'll appear on the QUEST exploration. See a list of the pools where you can add photos from these places.
Stay in contact with QUEST: You can add "kqedquest," as one of your contacts in Flickr.
I just saw a photo of yours that I love. Can I use QUEST's photos for personal use?
In most cases, yes. Most (but not all) of QUEST's images are licensed under Creative Commons, which means they can be used for non-commercial purposes when attributed to KQED QUEST. Read more about our license terms.
