Having grown up in a small apartment on Fell st. Between Cole and Shrader. The aquarium was my second home..as a teenager joining the tropical fish club...later working as a stagemanager in the 1950's with Dr. Earl Herald's "science in action on the old channel 4...and as you stated I wondered what was going to replace the old buildings as I watched the swinging steel ball demolish a large part of my childhood. Then as if a miracle happened! What a fantastic concept and completion of the new Academy of Sciences. A total success for the thousands of adults who have already visited and the memories yet to be experienced by the children....San Francisco and the people who brought this project to life can be proud of this world class center of science and education.

I also spent many hours at the Cal Academy as a kid. School field trips, trips with the family ... (I'd forgotten about the two-headed snake. Thanks for bringing back that great memory!) I can't wait to see the new, and am thrilled to know they've kept some of the old.

The New California Academy of Sciences...

As a kid, I spent a lot of time at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. The Academy offered free (or maybe it was just discounted) admission......

I saw the Cal Academy green roof from the de Young observation tower. At the time of my visit the Academy building was still inaccessible. Hope to visit soon to, among other things, lean over the seahorse railing.
