Definitions

Paid caregivers – people receiving payment for caregiving. These are mostly professionals, but some programs are set up to pay people for caring for their family members.

Unpaid caregivers – people not receiving any payment for caregiving. These are primarily family members, but also include friends and neighbors. The individuals being cared for usually live in their own home or the home of a family member or friend.

Family caregivers – make up the bulk of unpaid caregivers.
