TO AIR ON KQED PUBLIC TELEVISION 9

Spark's Web Site Attracts International Audiences for Local Artists
Pledge SPARK and Get Original SPARK Artists' Artwork and Tickets to the Season's Hottest Events
San Francisco, California -- SPARK, a co-production of KQED Public Television and the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC), will air it's first-ever marathon on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 from 7:30 to 10:00pm. Hosted by Bay Area arts luminaries live in the KQED studio, the SPARK special will offer viewers a chance to support their local arts show and "Pledge SPARK."
Confirmed SPARK Marathon hosts include:
- David Dower, artistic director of The Z Space Studio
- Keith Knight, comic artist/hip hop performer
- Dmitri Matheny, head of SFJAZZ education program and acclaimed horn player
- Carey Perloff, artistic director of the American Conservatory Theater
- Vishal Ramani, Indian dance instructor and head of Shri Krupa Dance Academy
- Emily Sano, director of the Asian Art Museum
- Nikolas Weinstein, internationally known glass artist
- Pamela Z, performance artist
Items available to viewers who donate to SPARK include:
- SPARK t-shirts
- Original artwork by artists featured on SPARK including Keith Knight and Nik Weinstein
- Tickets to the season's hottest arts events, including Mark Morris opening night and private artists reception, ACT productions, Cal Performances productions, and SF JAZZ headline concert and artists reception
- Private tours of arts institutions including the di Rosa Preserve and Steve Oliver's sculpture ranch
- Artist-signed posters from Bay Area museums
Additionally, with a $10 donation, fans will be able to vote for their favorite artists featured on the program. The artist or arts organization with the most votes gets their Spark episode rebroadcast on KQED.
Major support for SPARK is provided by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, The William and Gretchen Kimball Fund, and the KQED Campaign for the Future Program Venture Fund.
