Jacques Pépin: The Apprentice--Then & Now: Press Release

JACQUES PEPIN GETS PERSONAL ON KQED

Pépin's Latest Program, "Jacques Pépin: The Apprentice--Then & Now," Airs During KQED's August Pledge Drive

San Francisco, California, June 27, 2003 -- Jacques Pépin is considered one of America's best chefs and has helped revolutionize America's food industry. He has dedicated 50 years of his life to the culinary arts, is the author of twenty-one cookbooks and the star of nine KQED Public Television cooking series. This summer during KQED's August pledge drive Pépin combines his great talent for cooking with his flair for storytelling in a new 80 minute television program, Jacques Pépin: The Apprentice--Then & Now.

From his childhood years in post-WWII France to Pépin's current status as culinary icon and Emmy Award -- winning television star, The Apprentice--Then & Now chronicles the great chef's high profile career and personal history. Following a brief introduction by Julia Child The Apprentice features Pépin shopping with his mother in a French open market and with his daughter in New York's Fairway Market, gardening with his wife at their Connecticut home, instructing student chefs at the French Culinary Institute and a demonstration on how to prepare a traditional all-American clambake! The program also offers the same great step-by-step demonstrations of recipes and techniques that have made Jacques Pépin a household name. Additionally, Pépin offers a historical overview of America's culinary awakening, which has paralleled his skyrocketing career.

In August 2003 the companion Web site to The Apprentice--Then & Now will launch on KQED.org. Visit kqed.org/theapprentice/ for an interactive timeline of Jacques' life, step-by-step recipes, program details and Jacques Pépin books, videos and DVDs.
