Accidental Hero: Producer Biographies

Terri DeBono & Steve Rosen
TERRI DEBONO (MFA, UCLA, 1968, Directing) and STEVE ROSEN (BA, UCLA Motion Picture Dept, 1967, Cinematography) have won nearly 100 international film festival awards (including numerous CINE Golden Eagles) for their documentaries, dramatic films and commercials. Their screenplay Defending Teddy Webberfield is in development with Craig Anderson Productions at Sony Pictures.

Beyond Barbed Wire, their critically acclaimed documentary narrated by Pat Morita, aired on the PBS national prime-time schedule in May 1999, 2000 and 2001. It was nominated for Best Feature Documentary by the International Documentary Association, and won a Gold Plaque at the Chicago Int'l Film Festival. It also screened at the 1997 Seattle, Hawaii International Film Festivals, as well as the Human Rights Watch Film Festival (New York), Cinequest (San Jose), and the '99 Prague World One Film Festival in the Czech Republic. In 2001 BEYOND BARBED WIRE was selected for acquisition by the Museum of Television and Radio for its permanent archive.

Three by Steinbeck, a dramatic adaptation of three John Steinbeck short stories, aired regionally on PBS, as did the documentaries Theresa: A Change of Face and Solving Medical Mysteries with William Windom.

During 1997-1998 Terri and Steve created over 40 documentary segments for the syndicated newsmagazine, Quest for Excellence, a half-hour television series hosted by Dina Eastwood. Produced by the California Teachers Association to publicize successes and concerns in California's public schools, the series aired in every market in the state. One of their cover stories, Hannah and the Coast Guard, won a CINE Golden Eagle in 1999. They collaborated with CTA again in 1999-2000 to create Journey to Respect: The History of the California Teachers Association.

Other contracted documentaries include Time Captured in Paintings narrated by Jack Lemmon (1997, Monterey Museum of Art), Piano Competition (1998, Carmel Music Society), Portrait of a Partnership (1998, Tanimura And Antle), and Misch Kohn — Beyond the Tradition (1999, Monterey Museum of Art).

The Monterey-based team recently completed ROOTS OF CALIFORNIA PHOTOGRAPHY for the Monterey Museum of Art and the University of California, Santa Cruz. Again narrated by Jack Lemmon, this 56-minute documentary features internationally known photographers including Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, Brett Weston and Wynn Bullock.

Terri and Steve are members of The Independent Feature Project/West, The Film Arts Foundation (San Francisco) & The International Documentary Association and are Film and Literature Fellows at Calif. State University, Monterey Bay.

Sandra Jackson, associate producer, education advisor, researcher (BA, Journalism, CSU, Long Beach) has a vast background and experience in all aspects of the media. She has been a radio and television writer and producer, a newspaper reporter, a wire service writer and has owned a public relations business. Sandra is past president of the NEA (National Education Association) Public Relations Council of the States.

For eleven years, Sandra has been a Media Relations Consultant for CTA (Calif. Teachers Association). Most recently, Sandra produced and wrote segments for QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE, a half-hour television newsmagazine show for CTA about the successes and concerns of California classrooms. She has a passionate about improving the perception of public education.

Sandra, Terri and Steve worked together on the syndicated QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE, the award winning half-hour newsmagazine show, hosted by Dina Eastwood. They collaborated recently on JOURNEY TO RESPECT: The History of the California Teachers Association.

Brian Eady (Beno), composer, an academic counselor at Fremont High School in Oakland, California, received his BA in Sociology from Georgia State University in 1997. A graduate of Logan High school, he was a member of Tommie Lindsey's forensics team where he won many forensics awards and qualified for State in Oratorical Interpretation in 1991.

Although Beno began his career as a dancer, he writes, raps and produces his own music through his company, READY RECORDS. Beno is a member of ASCAP and the Independent Music Alliance of the Bay Area. Beno has recently written music for two television commercials. His latest project is Humble Beginnings, an eleven track album, available on CD.
