| KQED Public Radio's "Health Dialogues" September Program Looks at Latest in Diagnosis and Treatment for Depression |
WHAT:
Health Dialogues, a special monthly report airing as part of KQED's statewide news program The California Report and hosted by Scott Shafer, engages listeners in an on-going discussion of California health care issues that are crucial to the state's under-served people.
September topic: Clinical depression
Clinical Depression has become one of the leading causes of disability in the U.S. But shame and stigma still get in the way of detecting mental illness. On the September Health Dialogues we'll look at the latest in diagnosis and treatment of depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder.

Dr. Charles Debattista: Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University Medical Center.
Dr. Jeanne Leventhal Alexander: Director of the Northern California Kaiser Psychiatry Women's Health Project.

The California Endowment, through KQED Public Radio, has provided funding to partner public radio stations around the state to produce their own complementary local news stories, public affairs programming and outreach efforts in conjunction with the statewide broadcast program. Health Dialogues won The California Public Health Association-North's 2003 Broadcast Media Award because of its commitment to covering health care issues.
The California Report series Health Dialogues is made possible in part by a grant from The California Endowment, a private, statewide health foundation. The mission of The California Endowment is to expand access to affordable, quality health care for under-served individuals and communities and to promote fundamental improvements in the health status of all Californians. The California Report, hosted by Scott Shafer, is a daily statewide news and public affairs program produced by KQED Public Radio and broadcast on more than 20 public radio across the state. The program includes nine-minute segments broadcast weekday mornings and a half-hour newsmagazine broadcast on weekends. It attracts over half-a-million listeners across California each week. Funding for The California Report is provided by The James Irvine Foundation, The California Endowment, the Stuart Foundation, Inktomi, TIAA-CREF, The California Department of Conservation, as well as the members of KQED.
