PUBLIC RADIO
KQED Public Radio Live Audio Stream Now Available In Quicktime At KQED.org

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- KQED.org, the most trafficked station site in public broadcasting, has launched a new format for its live audio stream of KQED Public Radio. In addition to RealAudio and Windows Media formats, the stream is now offered in QuickTime.

The QuickTime format is offered at a higher encoding rate (32 kilobytes per second) than the RealAudio and Windows Media stream, (16 kilobytes per second), which results in noticeably better sound. The KQED Public Radio live audio stream can be accessed via the "Listen Live" button on the KQED.org home page.

KQED Public Radio is the most-listened-to public radio station in the country, reaching over more than 740,000 listeners each week over the air throughout Northern California, and thousands more online from around the world.

The KQED Public Radio stream is one of the most popular station streams in public broadcasting, receiving over more than 250,000 hits each month. Hits are defined as the total number of times that users connect to the stream.

QuickTime is Apple's software for developing, producing and delivering high-quality audio and video over IP wireless and broadband networks. It has been downloaded by hundreds of millions of users worldwide. The player can be downloaded for free at www.apple.com/quicktime.

KQED Public Broadcasting operates KQED Public Television 9, one of the nation's most-watched public television stations during prime-time, and KQED's digital television channels, which include KQED HD, KQED Encore, KQED World, KQED Life and KQED Kids; KQED Public Radio, the most-listened-to public radio station in the nation with an award-winning news and public affairs program service (88.5 FM in San Francisco and 89.3 FM in Sacramento); KQED.org, one of the most visited station sites in Public Broadcasting; and KQED Education Network, which brings the impact of KQED to thousands of teachers, students, parents and media professionals through workshops, seminars and resources.
