| KQED Public Radio to Air NPR Coverage of Senate Hearings With Attorney General Ashcroft |
San Francisco, California, November 13, 2001 -- On Thursday, December 6, beginning at 9 a.m. PST, NPR News and KQED Public Radio 88.5 FM will provide coverage of Attorney General John Ashcroft's appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Secretary Ashcroft is expected to discuss detention of terrorism suspects, military trials, eavesdropping on lawyer-client conversations and other issues arising from the terrorist attacks of September 11. The committee, headed by Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT), for several weeks has requested a special session with Ashcroft to discuss the topics of anti-terrorism and civil liberties.
NPR News coverage will be anchored by Frank Stasio and legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg.
The Senate hearings can also be heard on KQED Public Radio 88.5 FM streamed via the Web at KQED.org.
In a precursor to the Ashcroft Senate hearings, Forum, KQED's weekday morning program hosted by Michael Krasny, will discuss and debate issues of detention on Wednesday, December 5, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
