KQED Public Broadcasting Names Patricia Evans Vice President of Communications

Communications Executive Charged with Delivering KQED's Message and Mission to Multiple Communities and Constituents

San Francisco, California, December 17, 2002 -- Patricia Evans, a 25-year veteran of media and communications, was named KQED Public Broadcasting's new vice president of communications and community/government relations. John Boland, executive vice president and chief content officer for KQED, made the announcement today, and Evans will report directly to Boland. She joined KQED in September as interim executive director of communications and community/government relations.

Evans will oversee all of KQED's internal and external communications activities, including corporate communications, branding, publicity, advertising, publications and staff communications. She will develop communications strategies; provide counsel to the president and other senior managers; serve as executive editor for written materials; coordinate community outreach activities; manage local, state and national government affairs; and serve as management liaison to the KQED Community Advisory Panel.

"We are delighted that Patricia will lend her extensive skills and knowledge to KQED's efforts in presenting ourselves to the community," noted Boland. "She brings to the position a successful track record directing marketing, public relations, advertising, branding, graphics, publications, program and promotion strategies in the non-profit and private sectors."

Evans was director of marketing for the Exploratorium science museum (1997-2000) and director of marketing and public relations for the San Francisco Zoo (1993-1997). Directing marketing communications for those institutions, she developed and launched new organizational brand identities, award-winning advertising campaigns and built strong relationships with media and corporate partners -- significantly increasing visibility, audiences and profitability.

Before shifting her career to the non-profit sector, Evans had a rich 16-year career in broadcasting, including positions as program director for KFOG Radio (Susquehanna Broadcasting); program director for WXRK Radio in New York and KOME Radio in San Jose (Infinity Broadcasting); and program director and assistant program director at KSFX (ABC Broadcasting) and KYA AM/FM (KING Broadcasting), both in San Francisco.

Evans also managed marketing & communications for the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, at the Spirit of Ford museum and the Ford Motor Company Conference & Event Center (2000-2002).

Evans, a San Francisco resident, has won numerous public relations and advertising awards throughout her career.
