KQED Promotes William Larson to Vice President of Human Resources and Labor Relations

San Francisco, California, September 10, 2002 -- Jeff Clarke, president and CEO of KQED Public Broadcasting, today announced the promotion of William B. Larson from director of human resources and labor relations to vice president of human resources and labor relations. The promotion of Larson is Clarke's third senior management appointment in his three-month tenure as KQED's new leader.

"Bill's promotion is a positive step in ensuring we protect and nurture one of KQED's greatest assets -- our staff," said Clarke in his announcement. "His knowledge, expertise and counsel in my brief time here has been appreciated and duly noted."

Larson is responsible for directing, developing and implementing all human resources policies, procedures and labor relations for KQED's staff of 275 employees. Under his previous direction, he was instrumental in negotiating KQED's new contract with NABET, providing management and staff training, and improving the organization's pension plan, vacation policy and salary administration.

Before joining KQED in 1997, Larson served nearly 20 years for Del Monte Foods, based in San Francisco. His most recent positions with Del Monte were as senior manager of risk management (1989-1997); director of labor and employee relations for the Western United States (1986-1989); and director of employee relations, finance and personnel administration for dry grocery and beverage products (1980-1986).

Before joining the private work sector, Larson served in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Fort Irwin, California. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois, having received an undergraduate degree in education. Larson is a resident of Bass Lake, California.

KQED operates KQED Public Television 9, the nation's most-watched public television station, and Digital Television 30, Northern California's only public television digital signal; KQED Public Radio 88.5 FM, the most-listened-to public radio station in the nation; the KQED Education Network, which brings the impact of KQED to thousands of teachers, students, parents and media professionals through workshops, seminars and resources; and KQED.org, which harnesses the power of the Internet to bring KQED to communities across the Web.
