| KQED Offers Health Resources to Bay Area Families |
Critically Acclaimed Television Series "American Family"
Inspires Services
"American Family shows that long-form television is a rich genre, allowing characters to live and grow." -- Roger Ebert of EBERT & ROEPER, in a rare discussion about long-form television
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- As part of an ongoing effort to raise awareness of health issues and related Bay Area resources, KQED Education Network (EdNet) has announced their 2004 American Family -- Journey of Dreams outreach campaign. The multi-faceted outreach effort uses the PBS series as a springboard to highlight Latino health issues in the Bay Area through a series of community outreach activities and a unique youth media campaign.
American Family chronicles the multigenerational saga of one family's pursuit of the American dream. It is the first drama series ever to air on broadcast television featuring a Latino cast, and the first original prime-time American episodic drama on PBS in decades. It first premiered in January 2002. Its second season premieres on Sunday, April 4, at 7:00PM on KQED Public Television 9.
In addition to conducting the outreach events detailed below, as an broadcast component to the initiative, EdNet teamed up with Youth Sounds and Native American Health Center's Urban Indian Film Project to produce a series of bilingual health-related television interstitials produced by youth for broadcast on KQED.
