Tough Times for Toy Stores
As the holiday shopping season gets into full swing, parents are scouring the stores for toys that are safe for young children. Record numbers of largely Chinese-made toys have been yanked from store shelves this year due to various defects. And just last week, California filed suit against 20 companies it accuses of making or selling toys that contain illegal amounts of lead. With all this going on, it's a tense time to be a toy store owner. We recently visited Pamela Byers, the owner of a small chain of toy stores in San Francisco and Berkeley called The Ark.   more
