San Jose Gets $200,000 NEA Grant for Downtown Arts District

San Jose is getting a federal grant to create an arts and culture district downtown.

City officials say they'll collaborate with the Latin American arts group MACLA to create a dynamic landscape of “Pop-up Tiendas,” booths featuring artwork and performances.

San Jose cultural affairs director Kerry Adams Hapner says the city wants to highlight its cultural diversity.

"What we’re doing here in San Jose is really looking at how we can use these funds and apply them to create a very vibrant, exciting downtown that’s going to appeal to a wide variety of people, that really creates that sense of place," she says.

The $200,000 grant comes through the Our Town initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts.
