Piedmont Considers Controversial Crime-Fighting Strategy

The East Bay city of Piedmont is considering a controversial crime-fighting strategy to help curb a recent spike in home-invasion robberies. Police and other city leaders propose installing cameras at several key intersections, which would capture an image of every license plate on every vehicle that crosses into town.

Proponents say this could help both prevent and solve crimes, but many privacy watchdogs worry the information could be misused.
