Hillsborough is Crafting Cell Tower Rules
The city of Hillsborough is holding one more public meeting next month to help craft regulations for new cell towers. Verizon wants to install thirteen new wireless antenna nodes on city rights-of-way. And city leaders are fighting for a say in the process, after the Public Utilities Commission gave approval for the wireless towers without notifying the town.
"What we strongly object to and will fight all the way to the highest court," said Hillsborough Mayor Jess Benton, "is the concept that a contractor can come into our town and do exactly as they wish, without any oversight or any review by the town."
City leaders say they'll draft a policy governing new cell towers after a final public hearing in April.
