'Girl With a Pearl Earring,' Other Dutch Masterworks Arrive in SF
A 17th-century painting often referred to as the "Dutch Mona Lisa" has arrived at San Francisco's de Young Museum, and goes on public display this Saturday.
Host Stephanie Martin got a preview of Johannes Vermeer's "Girl With a Pearl Earring," and 34 other paintings on loan from the Maurishuis Museum in The Hague.
Maurishuis Museum Director Emilie Gordenker says the works rarely travel outside the Netherlands, and are among the finest from a period known as the Dutch Golden Age.
