Northern California Grocery Store Strike Enters Third Day

A strike at Northern California Raley’s and Nob Hill grocery stores is entering its third day with no end in sight.

Union workers have been discouraging shoppers from entering stores since the walkoff began Sunday morning. If the Nob Hill store in Mountain View is any indication, many customers are sympathetic with the union: the store was nearly empty during lunch hour on Monday.

Among the sticking points are a wage freeze and the elimination of premium pay for Sundays and holidays. A store spokesman says the company needs savings to stay competitive. No new talks are planned.
