SF Public Housing Programs Get Grants for Community Planning
The federal government is giving San Francisco two grants to get residents involved in the rebuilding of some of the city's biggest public housing projects.
The grants will go for community outreach in the massive Sunnydale development in Visitacion Valley and to the Potrero Terrace and Annex developments on Potrero Hill.
Potrero resident Uzuri Pease-Greene works with the company rebuilding the housing there. She says outreach will help make sure her neighbors get the jobs and education they need as the area is made over.
"You can change the buildings, but if you don't change the people, then the building will just be a building. When you build a building, you have a foundation. The people are the foundation," Pease-Greene says.
Potrero and Sunnydale are both part of San Francisco's Hope SF program, which aims to rebuild public housing without displacing residents.
