BART is in the middle of what could be a record-breaking month.

The agency says weekday ridership has topped 400,000 three times since September 1.

That puts the transit system on track to surpass a weekday ridership record of 384,000 set in August 2012.

BART says high gas prices and a recovery in the Bay Area economy are fueling the spike in ridership numbers.
