Cultivating the Next Generation of Teachers
It is perhaps the most extreme example of schools in trouble: tens of thousands of teachers in Chicago going on strike for the first time in 25 years. The range of issues behind the strike includes teacher evaluations -- a hot-button issue for educators nationwide.
That touchy subject and others also appear in a new report from California's superintendent, with big ideas for cultivating the next generation of great teachers. Stanford Education Professor Linda Darling-Hammond co-chaired the task force behind this new report, called "Greatness By Design". She was also an education adviser to the Obama campaign in 2008.
