Yosemite Health Warning for Hantavirus Expanded
Yosemite officials are confirming two more cases of hantavirus, including a third fatality. They're also now expanding their public health warning to 12,000 summertime visitors at the Tuolumne Meadows Lodge and the High Sierra camps. The warning was expanded after a San Mateo man tested positive for the virus.
"This individual stayed at the Tuolumne Lodge and also at three of the High Sierra camps, and also did some backpacking", says Yosemite Park spokesman Scott Gediman. "So it's very difficult, if not impossible, to pinpoint where the exposure occured."
This brings the total number of hantavirus cases to eight. The other seven victims had all stayed at the Signature tent cabins at Curry Village.
