Berkeley's Largest Pot Dispensary Finds New Location

Berkeley's largest medical marijuana dispensary is moving to a new location on San Pablo Avenue near the intersection with Channing Way, months after being forced out as part of a federal crackdown.

In May, the Berkeley Patients Group had to move from its previous location, also on San Pablo, after a US attorney threatened to seize the building from its owners.

Frances Dinkelspiel of the KQED News Associate Berkeleyside says the new location used to be an A&W drive-in. "There were other places that Berkeley Patients Group looked at," she said, "but they were unable until now to find a landlord who was willing to rent to them, because landlords are running scared."

Berkeley Patients Group has to submit paperwork to the city's Medical Cannabis Commission.  Dinkelspiel says the shop plans to reopen in a few months.
