Oakland's Rep. Lee Seeks to Protect Pot Dispensary Landlords

Landlords under threat of having their property seized in the medical marijuana wars have found an ally in Rep. Barbara Lee.

The Oakland Democrat has introduced a bill to protect property that's been used for state-compliant dispensaries.

Mike Liszewski, policy director with Americans for Safe Access, says threatening landlords has become the latest tool in the Federal government's crackdown on dispensaries.

“It’s very sterile. It’s very clinical,” he says.  “But the result is still the same. It’s the government stripping safe access away from patients who need it.”

Liszewski says he hopes the bill's focus on property rights and states' rights may find traction with some Republicans in Congress.

The U.S. Attorney’s office had no comment on the bill.
