Dropbox Confirms Security Breach and Apologizes
The San Francisco-based online storage company Dropbox is apologizing after someone stole user names and passwords from the site. The company says it is also increasing security.
The problem surfaced a few weeks ago when users started receiving spam at email addresses associated with Dropbox accounts.
After investigating the matter, the firm now says a stolen password was used to access an employee account containing user information. It also found that usernames and passwords were recently stolen from third-party sites.
New security measures include automated systems to spot suspicious activity. The latest incident comes on the heels of high-profile hacks at Yahoo and LinkedIn.
