Study Shows Asian-American Population Is Growing, Prospering

A new study on Asian-Americans is confirming what many in the Bay Area have been saying for awhile.  The nationwide survey by the Pew Research Center shows Asian-Americans are the highest-income, best-educated and fastest-growing racial group in the United States.

Community organizer David Lee teaches political science at San Francisco State University.  He says that growth is now being translated into political power

“As we’ve seen in San Francisco, where we have the first Asian-American mayor of this city, Asian-Americans are registering to vote, they’re turning out to vote in larger and larger numbers,” Lee says.  “And the Pew study shows that Asian-Americans have a strong belief in government and public service.”

The survey also shows Asian-Americans are more satisfied than the general public with their lives, finances and the direction of the country.  They also place more value than other Americans do on marriage, parenthood, hard work and career success.
