A federal jury handed a partial victory today to Oracle in its patent lawsuit against Google. But the jury deadlocked on a key issue that could limit the damages Oracle can claim.

"This keeps alive the possibility of a big victory in favor of Oracle," Tyler Ochoa, a professor at the Santa Clara University School of Law, "But it certainly doesn't guarantee it."

Oracle claims Google stole copyrighted material in creating its Android operating system.
